Last week, we had an amazing summit with expert panelist providing the most accurate and important information concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and the CARES Act funds in Indian Country.
We thank and appreciate those who registered and participated, if you were unable to attend, you can access the recordings with the links in the bottom of this email.
I can’t express how proud I am, of my team and our partners who delivered a comprehensive look at the effects of the pandemic from a health and economic perspective, considering the various emerging risks.
There are so many risks to consider when planning to expend millions of federal funds and ensure assets acquired are compliant and protected.
If we do this right, we can emerge from this pandemic stronger in our sovereignty and economic positioning, with the ability to close the health disparity gap in native communities.
These disparities are the result of our dependence on an outdated Indian health system that is behind in modern health advancements; CARES Act funds can help get the technology and infrastructure.
If we can learned anything from this pandemic it is that, in life, “we don’t lose; we either win or we learn. “What we have learned about ourselves and our government systems is invaluable as we plan and prepare for the next situation, to respond swiftly and effectively.
As my brother Gary “Litefoot” Davis articulated last week in his closing remarks, “Indian Country needs to be prepared to respond, instead of always reacting to situations.”
I think that is key; not just for our survival, but for us to advance.
